The Operations Behind Heuherz Bayern

The traditional Bschonhof farm in Wurmannsquick (Bavaria), first mentioned in 1889, is now managed by Renate and Thomas Karch together with their three children.

Since converting to organic farming in 2008, the farm has consistently pursued sustainable and quality-oriented production methods. A modern hay drying facility (since 2010) ensures particularly gentle processing and consistently high feed quality.

In addition, the farm relies on renewable energy: photovoltaics, its own wind turbine, and an efficient wood chip heating system, which also supplies surrounding households, underline the holistic sustainable approach.

Hay from Heuherz Bayern stands for the highest quality standards.

The biodiverse, organically managed meadows provide a natural variety of grasses, herbs, and flowers – an important basis for a balanced animal diet. Synthetic fertilizers are completely avoided.

To ensure quality, the hay is regularly tested for toxins and mold. Harvesting is deliberately done earlier than usual, followed by gentle post-drying under cover. This reduces mechanical stress and preserves valuable ingredients and nutrients as best as possible.

For over 10 years, Heuland has been working closely with the Karch family. The goal of the partnership is the continuous development of high-quality rabbit hay – in harmony with nature, animal welfare, and market requirements.
